    soap for washing uniforms..

    Dear Collegues;

    I have a white LW summer jacket, it is nice but VERY dirty and I want to clean this.

    I have a washing agent for wool, and I shall here give the contest to the best of my ability;

    liquid soap,
    no enzymes
    no bleach
    no optical white

    is optimized to wash wool, silk and other sensitive garments at 30 or 40 dgr celcius.

    Ph value: in concentrated form 8,3 , 1% diluted for use ph 6,5

    Contains: 5-15% nonionic surfaceactive substances (??), cocos-fattyacid
    less than 5% alcali, alcohol and polycarboxylat

    Does this means anything to any of you..?..and can I use this for washing my cotton white LW jacket without making any irreversible damage to it..?

    I thank you all for reading and I hope for some good advice. I know we face a problem in this forum because there is such big difference on the soaps we can buy in different countries..

    cheers,

    Hans kristian

    Can't help you with the soap you've got, but what I do is:
    only soak it in lukewarm water f.e. in the bath and leave if for some hours, then rinse clean and repeat the process. That already helps a lot!

    If not good enough:
    I use original wartime soap ( got lots of US ww2 soap bars), so the cleaning will be just as in the old days.

    Still not good enough: I fill the bath with soda (sort of crystal stuff) and leave the uniform soaking for a day...

      The product that I use for 90% of my museum artifacts hand washing items is called Orvus Soap. It is a neutral PH balanced soap. The soap so safe to us on almost everything from fine silks at wool items. It’s even safe to use on animals. I know several farmers and Horse stable personal that uses it on their livestock when they show the animal in livestock compaction. It removes old stubborn manure stains. I have never had a bad experence using the great product.

          I would take it to a professional cleaner who knows what they are doing.
