woodchip camo, from attic, how to clean this?

again, i need your opinions so i certainly not destroy this helmet
this heelmet comes from the same atic as the wintercamo i already showed.

this one is postwar painted black, there is a heavy texture under the black paint, i did not expect such a nice camo color under the black,
so when i did find the helmet it was totally black, so i did scratch very careful the black paint away were it was possible without damaging the under layers of paint, it took me several hours to how the helmet is now,
it is pretty easy to remove the black paint on the smooth places but on the rough texture (i find out this is woodchip) it is very difficult.

so im afraid to use chemicals to remove the paint, but i hope to find here a solution how to remove the other black paint, becouse i see a very interesting brown camo

    here is the temporary result

That has to have the thickest chunks of wood/sawdust under the paint that I have ever seen, shame about the black paint though.

If you try any kind of solvent to remove that black paint you risk ruining or affecting the old paint underneath. I would be very careful about doing anything to this helmet.

              helmet

IMO, don't mess with it. I would leave it as it is.

Have you tryed with some alcohol?
You never know... Alcohol hardly hurts the original finish and sometimes can remove the newer one. A couple of times it worked with my helmets. Try in a small area and see what happens

Agreed - with the sawdust chunks being as thick as they are, it will be extremely difficult to get down into all the crevasses.. And in your desire to do so, you may end up removing some of the camo. There are forum members who have experience doing this type of work.. and I would go that route if it were me...

                        Really,

I would leave it as it is. It is a nice camo and you don't want to ruin it just by trying to remove the paint.

                        Regards Garry
