    Medals showcase question

    Hi everyone,

I have started recently to collect Wehrmach badges and I currently have more than a dozen pieces that are ach stored in a small ziplock bag to protect it from humididty and finger prints. I am search for a better way to store these badges and also for display. Can you advise on what type of showcase that I can use or the names of showcase suppliers. I found some online but they all have US Army decal on them. Also, should I apply any type of lubricant on the badges to reduce their oxidation?

    Thanks,
    HS

There are some old threads on this subject that you can search for but, I use a wood display case with glass top. The foam holds the items against the glass so they don't slip around and the foam is covered with a velvet type of material that you can get in several colors.

Been using these for several years (+10) without issues. I have noted that sometimes there is a ghost shadow on the inside of the glass where some badges set (easily wiped off) but so far, no negative issues to anything stored inside.

Here's some links, there are other sites as well:

    Good luck!

        Showcase

Thank you Tim and Ralph. I ordered from one of the links that Tim provided as they have a wide variety of boxes. I will try it out when it finally arrives here in Canada. I like Tim's display case, really nice. I have so far around 20 WWII medals and I am not sure yet if they can all fit in one box.

          HS,

I know what you mean and have had to move items in and out from time to time.

Also, you can get the deeper boxes for larger items like daggers, etc.

          Glad to help.

That luft dagger is a real looker, awsome. may I ask what is the size of the second case that contains the huge number of EK2s? I ordered a case that is 18x24 and 2" deep.

Try to avoid using a foam based backer as some gases given off by different types of foam material willl cause a problem with finishes and, if used directly, will adhear to the medal backs over time and deteriorate causing damage.

                  Hamdy,

                  That's the correct size for this one (18 X 24 X 2).

Resurrecting this old thread for a quick question, are there any companies that make display cases with UV protective glass?

I tried the links in the second post, and sent emails to some of them, but all replied that they do not use UV glass.

                    Hope someone can help, Thanks!
