Acetone to remove helmet over-spray

I'll be receiving this SS M42 next week. I'm considering using Acetone to try to gently remove the overspray. Is this wise?

Any help is appreciated. I've been told by those who have had this in hand that this will be a fabulous SS lid when cleaned up.

NORMALLY the old paint will stand aceton, but it's not a promise.

Try on the big red dots, a lot of paint there.

Be very gentle cause it looks like a really nice helmet-Maybe at first try to dilute a little bit the acetone and try it on a small spot to see if the old paint will remain untouched

I concur. Look at it now and we can see "original paint plus some other stuff that doesn't belong".

Start messing with it ... it becomes ... "Look at that helmet. Someones messed with the paint".

I prefer the former.

I contacted Bill Maertz. He reviewd the pics and has agreed to have a go at it. I'll record before and after pics. Can't wait, it's gonna be sweet.
