Make sure it is stored correctly, this means no moisture, no greasy and sweaty fingers touching the piece permanently. I would also avoid direct sunlight.

      Thanks for advice!
I will put the insignas away, and guess that aluminium folio is a good way to take the small insignias to put them in? Or is it better with very thin plastic folio? Or is it eaven better with food paper - and then alufolio? The insignias have been put away for 70 years or so, so i dont want to spoil it for putting it into wrong "protection seals"

By the way: Does Zinc react to oxygen or is it egal so it does not have to be seald off? That is another Q...

You may want to conduct a WAF search on the zinc pest problem. This has been a hot topic of debate for many years. Some have elaborate methods of so called cures. Some of these so called cures are merely a short temporary fix that in the long run just postpones the problem. It's best to read them and draw your own conclusions. I'm not sure what you mean by an aluminum folio? I would not use any food paper. Most have a wax coating that will cause problems. From a conservations point of view acid free paper and acid free boxes work best, You may want to watch the humidity ideally 43-45% humidity 24/7 - 365 days a year. Buy a good quality humidity gauge to help. You may also want to search humidity and acid free storage. A lot of already written information on these topic.

I've pretty good luck cleaning it in hot water with Bon Ami cleanser which is not abrasive. It reqires a very light touch however.
