Gave my SWB a new life

    Hi fellas

there are many that think that cleaning your medals is a capital sin on this forum

though i think MOST medals should not be touched i decided to polish my unmarked "30" SWB and i am glad i did cause it went from being salty to being one of the jewels in my collection......here are the results

    enjoy

    Halli

Looks like you stripped off all of what remained of the original finish and polished the base metal? You are left with something nice and shiny but the original finish is now destroyed forever.

          Hi

Its your medals but why clean them?
Not so long ago you polished one of your EKs

IMO there is better value in untouched medals

and as i sayed before i do not clean nearly all my medals
& i prefer them uncleaned but as for these two, i did not like the way they looked befor but i do now

            cheers

              Hello there,

Hey, it is your badge, and if that's how you like to enjoy them that's up to you.

Personally, that badge was beautiful before you polished it away.....

To each their own, and if you like it better now then so be it!

Sudsy Ammonia, be sure its the Sudsy type, will clean and leave all original finish. That's the best of both worlds IMO.

I can still see the badge and it looks GREAT...How is it "destroyed"??...I still don't see how dirt = history.....The dirt and grime may have been accumulated in a damp basement for all you know. I don't think this diminishes the "history" at all, but rather, just the value, which is irrelevant, if he never intends to sell it.

The soldier who proudly owned it probably would have kept it in this condition....Why shouldn't the new owner?
I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.....

Yes, you can see the badge, but can you still see the original finnish......

                      Original finnish=history

Dirt is not the same as original finish and patina.

Also remember, while we may possess these items, they are going to outlast us. We are just holding them for now. No one owns history. Its our job to protect them for future generations. Every piece that gets "cleaned" is one less piece of history.
