    Rubber restauration / preservation

    Gentlemen!

How do you protect rubberparts (no, I am not talking about those rubbers).

For example; Gasmasks, Gascapes, seal-Parts in your cars, tanks, gasmaskcans, Pilots-googles, Pilots masks etc etc ...

    Regards
    Michael

Hi Michael.. I wish there was a cure, but that's far the truth. Nothing stops the rubber rot or rubber harding. Here is a recent thread on the topic. Try a further WAF thread site search on this topic. Has been discussed at lot

I believe freezing slows the degradation process down considerably, but you have to keep the item frozen. If you thaw it, it degrades faster. I've heard some museums have frozen items in the hope that some process will be discovered to preserve rubber in the interim. Kind of like Ted Williams' head.
