    Velvet Bags - Safe?

    Hello,

    Just wonted to double check that the velvet bags sold in the link below are safe for storing cased medals in.

    I would contact them and ask if they are acid free.

      rbminis is correct. Fine out what they are made from, and if they are lined. Don't want something out gassing or a moisture magnet. Paul

        Making sure protective coverings are "Acid Free" is very important with storing valuables. I rang the company in question below and they dont know wheter there product is acid free or not.

        The only other information I have about these bags is that they are made out of polyester. So would this mean they are harmful with regards out gassing?

          Here's a good article from the National Park Service called Conservogram put out in 2004. Easy to read and compare different archival materials. It's much better than pouring through hours of conservation journals of mine. In the field of conservation business we all work together. It's good to draw your own conclusions on any product. Glad to see that you got a hold of the company. It just takes a few minutes of your time research a product and if you are not sure about the answer to ask again. Paul
