    Mylar photo sheets

    Hello,

I collect photographs and I need to start putting them into something for conservatipn. I've searched the forum and I have concluded that mylar sheets are the best to hold photos. Can anyone help me with where to buy these? I looked at the websites others in the past have put on here but they didnt have the mylar type of sheets. Thank you in advance!

Over the past several years archival materials are gaining in popularity. You can find them in comic book stores, coin shops or conservation supply companies. I want you to beware that some comic book and sports cards stores that sell in acid free items bulk quantities in loose (by the big box full) are not always 100% archival cover sleeves. Some of these so call cheap archival sleeves are only half archival meaning the dangerous plastic is reduced 50% (if you are not sure ask a sales person or research the archival page company yourself). By conservation standards that is not an archival page. Of course it cheaper to buy , but in the long run will damage your items.
Here a few other conservation companies who supply mylar sleeves and other type pages and boxes for storage.

    http://www.hollingermetaledge.com/

Just to be clear with everyone. I don't endorse any of these companies, and make to claims to the products that the sell. If unsure about any products as the sales person ( or research the product). I fine them helpful.

I didnt want to start another thread, so I hope someone checks my question out here. I dont know how to keep the pictures still and from falling out in my mylar sheets. They dont have tops or bottoms. Maybe I bought the wrong type? Here they are:

You may not want to use just regular scotch tape. Yes you do have an archival sheet barrier over you incased item. Regular tape will turn brittle and still will out gas fumes upward to the document.
3M makes a scrapbooking tape thats acid free tape that 100% safe for your acid free pages. Most crafting stores, and most larger office supply stores carry the tape and it is not expensive usually just the cost of regular scotch tape.

Thanks! So just to make sure, this tape will be 100% safe to put on the outside of the original photos to hold them inthe mylar sheets to keep them from sliding? Thanks.

Saw something cool the other day,, clear, archival quality, photo corners!

The guy said he got them at a arts and craft store called Michaels,,but when I went to my local one they didn't have them. They are going to check into ordering them for me..

He took his IDs and used the corners on them inside the Mylar sheets! Protected and both sides can be seen!

This tape is my pride and joy. Last two years hard to find, many stores stopped offering it. When i do find them, I buy extras.
Cant have non archival tape on archival items--it defeats the purpose.
non archival tape is one of bigger hazards out there.
