Sword and Firearm storage advice please

    Some advice please.
I am having a few storage issues, which I unable to do much about at present and as a result I am noticing a few rust spots appearing on some of my weapons. I am looking for a safe way to store some of my swords and deact firearms, it doesn't have to be pretty as long as it protects them.
I do use renwax, but I am looking to seal them in some sort of bag or wrapping. I have looked on the net and seen something called 'norust bags' available in the states, does anyone know of these or use them? or can I just use normal plastic bags with anti moisture packets.

    any advice gratefully received

DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF PLASTIC PEROID. I don't now what enviroment that they are in for now.
Do Not Use any type of plastic will trap moisture even if you have several selica bags in them. Most plastic will out gas and decrade. No not use any vaccum type of sealing bags. You still leave moisture in and around you items in a sealed bag, and the bags are either plastic, foil/plastic. Do not use any cloth soaked in oil for wrapping your items in. My guess is that you have high humidity levels. I would keep that in check as soon as possible.

Thanks for the reply Paul. Damp air is the problem, but unfortunately I am unable to do much about the environment for a few months. So from what you are saying keeping them clean and renwaxed is my best coarse of action at present.

I would fully agree with observations not to store your guns in plastic bags and not to wrap them in oil-soaked cloths. If your storage issues are akin to those of a homeowner, your best bet is to take a few hours of each month and wax/lubricate the items in question to ensure they are well coated and protected.

If you are looking at longer-term issues, I've had several experiences storing firearms and edged weapons for years at a time, and have eventually retrieved them exactly as I had packed them. In fact, mine are in storage right now and will be for another number of years. What I do is this: after a thorough cleaning, I use renwax on the exterior surfaces and run a patch with Break-Free inside the bore and otherwise use Break-Free or gun grease on the relevant internal parts. I then store each item in special storage bags made by Kleen-Bore (the trademark name for them is The Inhibitor), which contains special rust inhibiting chemicals, and seal these tightly. I then wrap the entire package in heavy wrapping paper.

Break-Free is a special firearms lubricant that is used by the U.S. military and other NATO forces: it's very viscuous and holds minute Teflon particles. There are other lubricants that offer the same sort of properties, to include some bicycle chain oils, in the event you can't locate specialized firearms lubricants in your country.

Years ago, I purchased cosmoline and used that, storing the firearms in sealed plastic storage boxes before wrapping them in heavy wrapping paper. That worked well too but was quite tedious to clean, when I retrieved them.

This technique has served me very well to date. You may want to research over the internet various other product lines, using such terms as "gun lubricants," "gun oil," "gun storage bags" or "rust inhibiting bags." Alternatively, such US retailers such as Brownells and Midway have an excellent line of products that can attend these requirements.

DISCLAIMER: I have no personal, financial, or other interest in the products and/or affilated companies named above.
