insignia, badge, and medals storage
What is the proper way to store insignia, medals, and badges when put into a safe? Right now most of these pieces are in little coin envelopes. Some are in plastic. What is the best way so that the pieces retain there finish? Thank you, Smitty.

Welcome smitty to the forum. As Paul said you will find plenty of usefull topics if you research. Anyways here are some to start.

There are lots more topics that have very usefull information. Generally you better store your collection in mylar D products or some thick polypropylene case and take care about humidity levels. If in your place there are high lvls of humidity you can buy a humidifier and solve the problem (humidity lvls as far as i've been told its good to be kept around 40%). Also it is good to avoid putting your collection under direct sunlight because clothes and paper stuff(mostly) get damaged (you can use some anti-uv filter and problem solved).

You should ask or investagate any items first to be sure. Yes, a lot of non concerned people will tell you that any plastic is safe. That is no true. As a conservator I see a lot of problems in poor plastic storage systems. Yes, you own your collection and it is yours to do what ever yo want.
