Black spot on late war army dagger.

Hello gentleme n, i need your advice!

I could have a really nice late war high lift Alcoso army dagger. The problem is near the tip of the blade is 3x4 mm black spot. At the moment I have just a pic and can not tell how deep it is. The rest of the blade is nice and well crossgrained. How can i remove the spot without damaging the crossgrain at the best???

Do not attempt to polish the spot out. Polishing any dagger blade will cause irreversible damage and value. Once you start messing with the dagger's graining the value will suddenly drop simpling by changing the grain, and plating. It’s best to leave it out of the scabbard and in humidity between 43% - 45% 24/ 7 year round. Of course it is your dagger to do as you see fit. Paul

Humm, It might be paint, or marker. Did you try using your finger nail to see if anything comes off. Use a magnifier and see if its etched in to the blade surface. Please let us know. Paul

Looks on the surface and may be Paint or Tar...Hit with some Brass or Bronze wool and Oil...If its on the surface that will cut it.I have also used a Razor and Oil to gently Take off the Main Gunk layer....I mean VERY GENTLY

try a non polishing thing, alcohol or so. There seems to be aproblem with the scabbard. The blade might have been greased or the scabbard might be a replacement.
