    Safe display of ribboned awards...

I know many of you prop your awards up on those tiny plastic easels for display, but I have occasional visitors to my humble abode, such as my kid's friends, whome may wish to handle these goodies without my permission, thus I like to put them behind glass, the awards, not the kids! SO,I've pondered how to do this,sticky-back tape? NO! Push pin through the delicate ribbon? Nien! So how do I suspend the awards safely from their ribbons? Niodium magnets! I found these at the local craft shop, inexpensive and POWERFUL. I super glue them at positions for a layout on the display case back-board,then cover with thin felt to hide. Then I use a complementary magnet in between the ribbon and fold over to hide the second magnet. They are non-invasive to the award but display strong and attractivly. They are so strong they even hold a K98k bayonet in place. The downside? They will lose magnetism in@ 400 years and I'll have to change them out...

Scott-W... Another way is to get some acid free paper. Roll small tubes about the size of a kid’s candy sucker stick. Glue the seam with a craft glue gun. Cut the tubes the width of the ribbon. Using nylon fishing line to sew the tubes to the backing. Pass the needle through the tube. Drape the ribbon over the tube. By draping it over the acid free tube you don't risk creasing the ribbon. I am concerned that the magnet is placing a lot of pressure just in the diameter of the magnet circumference. Just another thought. I use this method in several museum mountings of medals. Paul

Thats a good idea. All I do is fold up enough toilet paper into a square to give enough pressure under the glass. My god..................I actually spend time doing this. Oh well, it's fun as hell.
