    Glueing Antque Leather

I have a lot of leather items, US cavalry 1800's to WWI and II Brit and German. Some can be restitched, we all know. But I have some saddle bags and leather holsters with pull straps almost in 2 pieces. If I could find and use a glue that could bond these breaks, they would look good and possibly be somewhat functionable.
Any recommendations on rubber cement or any other glue?

First of all. I would not recommend gluing any old leather together. Some modern glue with polymers can cause serious damage down the road. Old leather is just too UN practicable. Even old oils, saddle soaps, animal salts from sweeting can also work against leather gluing. Most modern glue is almost impossible to remove.

Jerry Burney, who can be found on the Luger Forum:

      http://forum.lugerforum.com

is an absolute magician when it comes to working with leather. His repairs and restoration, using original materials (leather, threads, etc.) are completely UNMATCHED!

      His e-mail address is: lugerholsterrepair@yahoo.com

Many people have raved about his work. I suggest that you drop him a note. You won't be sorry.

      Cheers,
      Bob.

Here's what Jerry did for me. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...=354355&page=2 I'm really happy with his quality work and can highly recommend him.
In the case of the broken toe strap, he used high quality Super Glue.
