At the nearby USS Alabama WW2 battleship there is an onboard museum, mostly Japanese items, but the ship did operate in the Scapa Flow for a time and some German items displayed. When I first toured the ship as a boy, these medals were just put in the case, the EK2 had a nice orange ribbon.20 yrs later, with only a florescent bulb lighting the case in the darkened area, the red is almost white! The Fleet badge is also beginning to flake off it's grey in the center, and the fire guild is turning chalky,it too was minty in '87 when a vet donated them and a leather KM deck jacket and side cap on a bust(not pictured). The dark blue cap is now feldgrau! Light can be destructive as moisture gents...

Thanks Scott-W. A good example of what all light can do to your items. There are many things that can effect collections. Not just displayed items, but poorly, or incorrectly stored items. This is what I have been talking about for some time now. So many people do not want to believe it can happen to their presious military items. Paul
