    brainstorming for medals storage

I had my medals on display on riker mounts. But have moved and now have to store away in a safe/deposit box.

However, I find the riker mounts to take up too much space. I'm looking for a storage system I can create or setup that will take up the
    (1) minimal amount of space,
    (2) will maintaining easy access,
    (3) and of course archival integrity.

For some reason, those old floppy diskette holders come to mind but I'm not sure how that would bear out in practice.

I've search around for prior threads but found nothing so if there is one please direct me.

I'm looking for ideas so throw them out.

also, post photos of YOUR system if you have one.

    thanks,

    first idea

not much in replies, so i'm going to do the folllowing in case anyone wants to know for future reference or perhaps wants to improve on it.

basically use the idea of archival photograph sleeves but with the backing made of fleece and the front of the aforementioned polypropylene archival sheet (one single sheet) to be sewn on fleece with cotton thread. Depending on the type of badges being stored (CCC, EK IAB, MS,DS, etc) there will be custom sizing. then they will go inside an enclosed archival 3 ring binder. Only worry is that they don't sliip out thru the top when handling the binder. but with car and with the friction of the fleece and badge I think it will be ok.

here's picture to illustrate what it should look like when I'm done. note: the black lines will be whte cotton thread.

entasis- There are several companies that carry acid free small 3 X 3 boxes and acid free (2 X 2 , or 2.5 X 2.5) pages. In the conservation field we use several different styles. If you go with the pages there is acidfree two sided tape to seal up the top. If you searched any of the past threads it is key to keep the humidity reduce to between 43%-45% 365 24 / 7. It imported for the long haul to stay with acidfree. Even though people on this site do not agree with the acidfree products. In the end it is your choice to use what ever you disire. As I have stated in past threads educate your self first on all options .
Gaylord conservation supplies, Univerisity conservation supplies, Talas supplies, and Light impressions. All carry great products. Use the internet for searches Paul
