How to clean aluminium spoon? There is faint writing on the back?

Someone apparently engraved the spoon very lightly on the back. I can make out "die" "Got" "alter," etc, but not the entire thing.

How to you suggest I figure out what it says? It is a matter of being able to "see" what is written. Can I clean the spoon, or is a magnifying class a good idea, etc?

how about putting a piece of thin paper or film, then use a pencil to scratch over it to get the etching? if you do it very lightly and try varying the pressure, you might catch something as the engraving is usually negative inside.

Take an image of it, (post it here so we can see) and play with it in Photoshop.
