How to properly insure your collection

Greetings,
Reading some concerns of fellow collectors and such from the other various military forums.
I have found out that it is indeed a good idea to have your collections verified and insured.

The one part that I noted and did not seem to get an evaluation on from the others and am hoping to get one here on this forum; how do you protect your investment?

How do you prove that the piece that you are insuring is indeed an authentic piece and has a value that greater that the insurance company agrees that the items mentioned are not going to be replaced with a replica?

If anyone has any suggestions on how they got the insurance company to cover their collections and state that the value of the item i. e. an SS cufftitle or a dagger, etc.. is indeed an original and if ever claimed, should be for for the full amount of the insured item.

any good proper insurance valuator will have their specialist person to look into that. you could also provide him with purchase documents, or note similar items and their current value. of course there will be the issue of reproduction items and that is a big issue out there.
