    Polar Fleece

    Hello

I am looking for the correct fleece needed to line my Aluminum cases for my badges. Is this the right stuff? Thanks in advance.

    Best Regards, fischer

    White Solid Fleece
100% Polyester polar fleece. Anti-Pill on one side. Measures 59-61 inches wide, approximately 360-380 grams/yard, machine washable. Colors may vary due to differences in screen settings.

      Fischer:

Everything sounds good to me except one thing--the "anti-pill" feature. I personally do NOT get that type of fleece. "Anti-pill" fleece, (as I was told by the employee at the fabric store), has been treated with something which prevents it from developing "pills" when it encounters friction during typical use for clothing, blankets, etc. Since you're not going to wear this fleece, and it won't be encountering any significant friction in your display cases, I would just avoid that type, be on the safe side, and get the regular fleece. The idea with such materials is to have them in their most natural and/or non-chemically treated condition.

The anti pill feature is both a chemical treated and a manufactured process. This type of fleece is gaining in popularity due to the older style fleece had a worn out look after 3-5 washings. With the older style fleece once it's in the case I don't think that it would have any friction on it. I would not purchase the anti pill. However the older style fleece would work just great. I like the alumn case You have a great system for archival storage. Paul

Thanks for the info Chris and Paul...
I have been searching for fleece without the "anti pill" but not having very much luck. It seems the fleece with the anti pill is all the rage.

My material store does not have Polar Fleece, just Alpine and its made in China. I googled it but all Polar fleece I found came with the anti pill on one side.

            Anyone have any suggestions...

The question on new the anti pill fleece fabric has got my attention. So I had decided to contact another fabric conservator. She is very fimular with different types of fabric processing. I spoke to her in length about the new anti pill fleece and how it is manufactured. She stated that it is brushed and combed during the manufacturing process. There is a chemical that is applied to fabric to be an anti static, and it will stand the fibers upwards for this process. She has found that washing in warm water with out laundry soap will remove the chemicals. She stated that 99% will be removed from the fleece through this process. So don't hesitate in buying this fabric. Just remember to rinse it well. Paul

Thanks Paul...Hopefully I can tell which side is the anti pill side and place that side down in the case.
