    How can I remove mold from visor cap?

    I have a problem with an officer's visor with mold that regrows on it. I've convinced myself for years to just brush and vaccum it , but was curious if there was any safe way I could possibly remove the mold alltogether?

      As Paul R correctly asked "how's the humidity"
      Mold needs moisture to thrive. Which for you means growing back.
      I can not talk for your visor with its fabric, celluliod, etc. as I only how to stop mold on most books. I know what many book dealers do with their valuable books=It is hepa vacumes with soft bristle appendage and wood alcohol misted via spray bottles , then let sit 5-10 min before misting again and carefully fully wiping book down, then let to dry. All this is done out side on sunny dry day.

      For your visor...I fear applying wood alcohol... but a little bit of good dry sunlight would help a bit.



      The old testament actually says that the sun can aid in killing mold...and it has a point.

      Keep your visor in a room with a dehumidifier also.

      by the way, certain molds can be very bad for your health.

      Now let's hear from some visor experts, please.

        Hi guys, thank you for responding. I will snap some photos ASAP. It is a Infantry officer's cap. The humidity is usually between 35-60% but about a month ago it almost went a little past 70%. I'm just getting on to trying to control my humidity and I still have to get a dehumidifier. Definitley will be a purchase in the VERY near future.

        I read about possibly gently wiping with alcohol after brushing and vaccuming, perhaps the added step of some time in the sunlight on a dry day may help? Any possible dangers here?

          Thanks Michael. I would keep the humidity between 43-45% year round 24/7. Do not wipe the cap with anything but a clean cotton void of any chemicals. Alcohol can seperate old glue, and dull your visor. Michael is correct. Sunlight and a breeze will help until you control your humidity. If there is no change in the humidity. You will be back at it again a bit later. Paul
