    Cleaning a reverseable camo trousers.

    Hi Friends,
    some years back, i bought this pratically unused pair of reverseable camo trousers which are almost perfect in the colours side but very dirty when you look the white side. I left it dirty for all the time but now i bought a parka with the very same camouflage pattern so i decided to remove the spots dirt in the white side of the trousers, obviously without altering the shade and the brightness of the colours.
    Could you help me to find the safest, and in meantime, the most efficacious way to realize my intentions?

      I would let it this way. Remember when you use water with this kind of items they are getting heavy and there is a chance that the cloth will be torned. I don't know if you want to clean the whole trousers of just some parts.

        Hi Alex, I would not touch this item. Any cleaning is bound to effect the camo side. This may well end in tears!

        If you need trousers to match the jacket, sell these and buy another pair.

          Hi there, I washed a tatty?rough padded winter jacket, it took a week to dry(summer time) and it ended up with some water stains on it.I didn't look much cleaner either.Regards Hans.

            If your doing a combat mannequin setup then the trousers should be anything but white. But if your doing a trooper going to the front with fresh issue then try and find some cleaner ones. I would not recommend washing anything from 60 years ago its just not worth it.

              Great responds guys. Yes, Even plain water can stain old clothing, and the water weight on the lining can pull on old threads and fabric. Why risk it. Yes it's your to do with you see fit. From a conservators point. It's best to leave it alone. Paul

                Oh my..leave it alone..I always think of a quote I read here awhile ago about cleaning badges and medals..it went somthing like "I have seen many a good medal ruined by the good intention of cleaning it"..I think you should think about this quote as well.
