sshort. Ren wax will not darken any etching. You really don't want to add any chemical to the etching area. You could really damage the blade and the etching. First take a clean cotton rag, or and old white t shirt to clean off any grime on the blade. Then apply a very thin layer of ren wax to both sides of the blade only. A small dab of ren wax goes a long way. Next wipe id down. It's kind of like car wax. When it dries it has a foggy appearance. Take a clean cotton cloth lightly buff it off. Do not over apply, and of course do not store the blade in the scabbard. Paul
