    Cleaning up old uniforms

I have a few US uniforms (wool I think) that are a bit musty. I am wondering what would be the best method to clean them up. Can they be dry cleaned, or is there a better way? Thanks

Show them to a good dry cleaner and ask what he thinks. I dry clean WWI and WWII German items and have never had a problem but I use the same man that does the vintage clothing and uniforms for the State museum system. Some collectors hate that but IMO and my dry cleaner, it will preserve the clothing longer.

A good dry cleaner will work, however make sure you avoid the $1.99 per shirt type of places. If you are really concerned about doing it right then look up in the phone book or on-line for a place in your area that does wedding dress cleaning and preservation.

      Best,
      John
