Modern sticky tab on rear of photos.

Hello All,
Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to remove modern sticky tabs (as pictured below) from the rear of photos? I've read alot of threads dealing with old glue and paper stuck to photos but not found one dealing with modern glues and residues.

Go to your nearest "Lakeland" store and buy some
"STICKY STUFF REMOVER".It is in a smallish
plastic bottle.Start off gently and see how much you
really need.Avoid soaking the paper.Works a treat.

Is it some sort of price tag? I would use a light steam to gently remove it. Not too much steam, and don't rush it. Paul

No, it's not a price tag. it's a double sided sticky tab, I guess it was used to attach the photo to an album sheet. You can see on the top left corner where one side is still stuck fast to the back of the photo and where the side nearest the camera has folded back over. When I received the photos all with this tab on them had adhered the photo below it to the back and I had a helluva job seperating them.

Whatever you do, I'd be seriously careful about it. Removing sticky stuff like that from paper can sometimes be a downright impossible job. I've made some of the most regrettable mistakes trying to fix things like that in the past myself. In some cases, all considered, it can be best to just leave things as they are. I'm not trying to tell you what to do, of course; I just couldn't help think of my experiences with such things in the past, and pass along some of my own thoughts and cautions. In any case, let us know what you do and how it works out for you.

I had some small success on a couple that hadn't been pressed down very hard by using a very sharp, thin bladed knife and gently seperating the sticky surface of the tab.
I managed to get the blade into the edge tab and slowly peeled away the top sticky layer, leaving the bottom layer still attached to the photo. I don't mind leaving this layer on the photo, I just wanted to eliminate the side facing out and reduce the risk of the photo sticking to anything else.

What you've described sounds like the best thing you could have done. Eliminating the out-facing sticky stuff to keep it from sticking to things is a sure need, in my opinion. With it getting stuck on things, you can just imagine how much that would increase the risk of it getting ripped, after being stuck, and picked up by somebody. At least you don't have to worry about that.
