    Display case question

I have been going through old threads on display cases.

Paul R. provided a website with aluminum cases that would be good but the linings would not be archival safe.

    http://www.aluminumdisplaycase.com

is the website and they also sell the velvet insert for these aluminum cases.

Im wondering if these velvet linings would be archival safe? I have heard that velvet is a safe backing/lining to use as it isnt acidic or gas out.

Would the aluminum case with black velvet lining be suitale to house my collection?

    Thanks,
    JR

If you use velvet make sure it is 100% PURE COTTON...
Many "velvets" have a Poly mix and can cause trouble from
    future "Outgassing".

Yes, if the velvet is 100% polyester it's okay or it's 100% cotton brushed velvet it's okay. If the velvet is cheap china made velvet it will have acetate finishing agent base which is a applied to the finish product. This blend of fabric is not stable. Due in part to the applied chemicals to the surface. If you are not certian pull out all suppected fabric. Yes, Seiler was correct 100% cotton muslin,or fleece will work just fine. Remember to rinse/wash the fabrics in cool water. Do not add any soap. Air dry. Touch up with a warm household iron. Mist water on the fabric no spray starch, or starch like product. Paul
