dress bayonet - not so dressy

Picked this up tonight along with other vet bringbacks, I Had to buy the other stuff to get what i wanted

someone took a dremel grinder to the head to get rid of the white hard stuff that is still left on the curved arm and thus did major damage. The blade is ok but has black marks on it, no rust (unless that too has been removed)

Its not worth getting the head re-chromed so maybe somethingc an be done with the blade ??

its a nice soligenn but it was kept in a shed

Warning,,, NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED

IMHO. Any metal conservation on this knife would yeild a changed item. I see a lot of spreading rust. Some rusted parts look deep, and looks to be a progressive deep(below surface). Any possible conservation would take alot of money, time, and effort to have a no retail valued knife. Paul

Thanks Paul, i figured, On the overall amount i paid for the lot this item ranks at about $10.00.. so no biggie, i guess i could look for a clean scabbard and pop it in the Junk draw

Exactly right, which makes this piece ideal to use for practicing your restoration skills. You have to start somewhere, and starting on items that are already ruined as good collector items is the logical way to go.
I'd love to take my needle files to the handle of your knife.

Sadly, a victim of good intentions and bad conservation skills and judgement.
