Vacuum bags for Uniform storage?

    Vacuum bags for Uniform storage?

    Hello,

    Does anyone out there use the Vacuum bags you can purchase for storage of cloth items?

    When I say Vacuum bags I don't mean the type used in Hoovers but the bags where you can remove the air to increase space storage of cloth items.

    Clearly this will probably crease the items however once the air is removed and the item is sealed should this not protect the kit inside the bag?

    Mark stay away from these type of storage bags. The idea sounds steller, however they really crease, wrinkle, crush clothing. The bag it self is not archival safe. They do out gas and will cause serious problems down the road. They are really not a collectors choice for storage. They are acceptable for your every day clothing atire. Paul

      I was told by a man experienced with vintage clothing for the 1800s to keep them in breathable containers or clothing bags. Flat storage is best. I take all the uniforms out at least once a year and check everything carefully. I have never had a problem with uniforms. I think Paul is correct about the vacuum bags. Probably great for down comforters but not tunics.

        At present I lay my items flat as suggested, so I will stick with that tried and tested method.
