Hello Gents, I've been wanting to buy some of the torso forms from websterdisplays.com but they are made of styrofoam, and I have read many times about the damaging effects styrofoam gases can have on cloth. Would wrapping the torsos in muslin cloth do the trick, or is there still a risk of permanent damage from the gases?

Hi Mike,
Ordering torso forms from the US is an expensive option.
Where are you located in Canada...there is a place in Toronto that sells used torso forms for much cheaper than websters and if you are nearby you can slip down and pick them up.
If your not near Toronto, I imagine there would be used store fixture places in most major cities.
I have bought mine from the Display Bank in Toronto and picked up a dozen at an auction when a mens clothing store closed..paid no more than $30 CDN for them with stands.

Mike styrofoam will out gas for a long time, and will in time cause damage to fabrics. Old store fiberglass manikins will out gas as well into the next 2 centuries. Most store manikins were also painted with lead base paint . No cover up will remove the lead. There are people that rework these with sanding and scraping the old plaster/asbestos, or fiberglass. Thats not a good deal. Before you buy something cheap do your research. Paul
