    Paint And Rubber.

Gentlemen I hope you ma be able to help me on this one .
I have recently obtained two 10x45 optics - trying to fill a transit case which I got last year.
    ( See - http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...=211166&page=3 Post 32 , one on the far left.

I have tried an alcohol solution ( Isoproporol) , it just removed surface dirt.

Bad news one has been overpainted dark gray - I need to get it off whilst trying to preserve the paint underneath - what remains of the origonal paint work - I don't know but it can't be worse than this over paint job - it is bloody awful.

Any advice much appreciated - what works on helmets which have been "ruined" ?

The other problem rubber - the same post same photo - the optic with twin orange eye cups - they are dried up and very stiff - any way of getting some life back into them ?

Thanks for taking time to read this if anyone can offer me any guidance or advice on what to do / not to do , or to go or not to go about it - your views and experinces would be welcomed and well recieved.

    thanks in advance.
    james S.

There is no sure way to remove paint from rubber. The old rubber is un stable. Never use harsh chemicals like finger polish remover it contains acetone. Acetone will desolve the rubber even a dulited version of it. You may try a dulited version of mineral spirits. Try it in a small non visual area. Also keep in mind that that paint used could be a lead base old paint There is no way to soften old rubber. Best thing to do is keep it out of sunlight. Use indoor house lights sparingly, and keep humidity low between 40-45%.
