I have a dagger that the blade is very black on.What if anything can I use to clean it with.I don't want to damage the blade and it appears to have no surface rust on it.Should I just leave it alone .Help please.Oh by the way it is an SS dagger.

Hello,
Although you may not know what the black on it is (and that is understandable), I believe that knowing that might be helpful in considering the best way to remove it. It would also, of course, be great if you could also post some pics of the blade. Every little bit of information helps for the evaluation.
I believe that the "pinned" thread on dagger preservation might also help you consider all the best possible things to do. It's at the very top of this dagger section. I know some suggest using Semi-Chrome. I've never used that yet, since I have, as yet, not had a reason to use it. I believe the Semi-Chrome is a sort of mild polish with abrasives in it. So, be careful there with using/applying too much too vigorously, as I think overuse can cause scratches.
Well, since no one else jumped in, I just thought I would offer my two cents worth. Hope that's at least a little helpful. If anyone has a different perspective, please do jump in too!
