Back from the dead

Hi guys

I got this old winter greatcoat about 2 weeks ago it was really beat up and a part of it had been eaten by mice..... I guess many would had left it alone and used it for parts but there was not many parts left the buttons was missing and it also had a great number of moth holes. But I thought I would bring it back from the dead and learn how to sew

I called my mother and asked here how to sew and how to repair holes in cloth. After she had stopped laughing and told me she would never had thought she would learn here son to sew, perhaps my sister but never here son!After brief sewing-instruction I was ready to start the project!

Here is what it looked before I started:

This is how it looks today and it still needs a little sewing some small holes still need repair.

The greatcoat has a nice hood in the collar

If anyone has a piece of spare cloth I would appreciate it for the repair in the bottom of the coat it is missing a larger piece

Wow!!! Considering how it looked before, you have certainly done a great job of "bringing it back from the dead." I, for one, am very impressed! In my opinion, that's also a great example of restoration that realy works. You have taken mice and moth damage, which is in no way original to the military history of the coat, and repaired it, in the best way possible, turning it into a very attractive and displayable piece. Plus, you've learned how to sew too. You sure can't beat that!

Hi Jens thank you I got this one from Jens and he knows how it looked before. It still need some sewing! I really enjoy trying to get it back to life and I like it in my collection

Ralph I have been working on and off on the coat for the past 2-3 weeks but I guess I have used around 10-12 hours of work and it still needs a little sewing so I guess it will end around 15 hours but I´m not very experience with the sewing so I guess a person who are used to use the needle and thread would do it a bit faster
