styrofoam display heads good or bad for cloth caps

will styrofoam display heads damage cloth caps in any way m-34's m-43's,or visors i thought i heard somebody mention it was harmfull can anyone help thank you

Definately not good for them. I go on ebay and purchase the glass heads for all my headgear. I believe that is the safest route to go. It has something to do with what the styrofome is made up of that is not good for the material of the caps over a period of time.

You can use the styrofoam heads. Wrap the area the hat will contact with either clean cotton or muslin first. Old t-shirts that have been washed work very well. Check every few years to make sure everything is still ok.
I've had a few hats this way for a few years now, and have found no adverse effects. I used 2 layers of an old t-shirt. Make sure it's white, and clean.

Yes, I've also heard that the styrofoam breaks down over time and eventually exudes some form of damaging chemicals or fumes. Since I've heard this from a number of reliable sources, I don't take any chances with it.
