Found this M-16 in a antique mall. It had been repaint black. The inside is pretty rusted up. I knew I didn't need that helmet. But I just could leave it there.

Besides the size and maker stamps, there should be a date (1916) stamped in small numbers on the inside of the crown (top) of the helmet.

Thanks Guys. I'd rather have a rusted shell. Than a repainted helmet. There's still some black on it. I'm going to try using a Q-Tip on what's left of the black paint. I'm afraid of taking some of the orginal paint off. Tim it's stamped ET64 on the skirt. I couldn't see a date on the dome. It's rusted pretty good on the inside. JoeComment

If you strip it down all the way you may see one, not sure. I know the print is very small and would probably fill in if you repaint it.

The dome stamps aren't the date, but the steelmill's factory code and the smelting lot number. These were put there in case a batch of helmets failed in ballistics tests, etc., the helmetmaker could pinpoint the exact ingot the helmets were made from and send all of the helmets made from that ingot back to the steelmill.
Dome stamp in an E.T. 62 M16. The R is for the Roechling steelmill, and the 53 is the smelting lot #.Comment
