Does the vaseline merely provide a barrier against moisture, which causes corrosion to increase on zinc badges, or is there some other reason for using vaseline? My area I live in has a 5% humidity value, and inside my safe it's no doubt less. I wrap my zinc badges in 100% cotton muslin cloth which has been washed in acid free Arm & Hammer detergent. If I handle my pieces for photo work, it's with white photography gloves. I hate the idea of coating my pieces in vaseline, especially when I live in this arid climate. Is there anything in the vaseline which actually 'checks' the corrosion on a badge? I'd love to not only stop the corrosion, but reverse it's effects on the metal. Is this possible?
