How do you display medals safely?

    Hello,

I have not been collecting that long but I now have a fair amount of medals. At the moment I have a shoe box collection with some silica gel in the boxes (This is probably not the best way to store them but that is way I am posting here ). Now I am looking to display my medals. I was wondering what would be the safest way to display your medals to prevent them getting tarnished. All help would be appreciated.

    Regards,
    Stephen

    Stephen,

I use the wood cases from the website from this company

    http://www.just-in-case.biz/default.aspx

Good value and keeps your medals/badges safe, they look very good in the cases. You can get different coloured backgrounds instead of the standard red foam. I got the black backgrounds recently and it looks very smart. Prompt delivery by courier too, which is also very good.

    regards,

    Mark

      Hi Mark,

Funny enough this was the kind of case I was going to buy but I was going to buy it in ebay where is was going to cost me £65. Thanks for showing me this link. You have saved me loads.

      Regards,
      Stephen

          Jokka,
Where did you get this case?

          Bob.

It came along with a collectors coin, you know, you subscribe to this thingy where you get one coin on regular basis. I only bought the first one, as it was reduced price, and the box came along. So I guess is limited made for the company that sells the coin collection ?

But there are quite a few similar for sale.

Here's a few more links in the US. These wooden cases are fairly inexpensive and look pretty nice IMO. Not as cheap as rikers mounts, but give a little better quality look to your collection.

They make deeper ones for larger items like daggers or firearms as well.

As they use foam backing, the compression holds the items pretty secure. If you use different thicknesses on items though, you may have to layer foam for the smaller items like breast eagles and collar tabs when displayed close to thicker items like daggers or they could slip around if you tilt the case.

Nice case, but if you have more than 7 badges (1000+) it would be a tad expensive to buy one of these for every set of badges.

Well, the one one the last picture holds 24, and if you can afford 1000+ medals you surely can afford some boxes too
