    Your advice please.

    Hi collectors,

Can you describe to people who have their precious uniforms on their manequins and these are in one large room how to protect these uniforms in such big space agains moths? I use a lot of sticky fly -papers made up for moths but I do not believe that is enough. I like to see your opinion.

    Thanks in advance Petr.

One advantage of displaying uniforms on a mannequin is that moths like to lay their eggs in dark and hidden places. Uniforms on mannequins seem less likely to suffer damage than uniforms stored in wardrobes or boxes. I put plastic or paper bags of mothballs in the pockets of uniforms I display. I will also put mothballs in boots or in French cuffs, any hidden place. I keep the mothballs in bags and do not let the chemical touch the fabric directly. I also frequently examine the uniforms for any sign of new damage or moth larva. I look under the collars and pocket flaps and in any area that is hidden. So far I have not found any insect damage. The room where the items are stored and displayed smells like mothballs but that is the price you have to pay I suppose.

Chris, thanks for your reply.I used to do it this way too but problem was with
that horrible pong.I used a tablets that evaporated by time a they ponged like petrol and me too!!People thought that I started to work on oil plattform.
Now i use fly papers only,it sticks a lot of moths but strange enough I did not notice any moth damage on uniforms.

      Have a good day Petr.

i found paper covered moth ball packets lavender scented work really well they dont have that over powering small and you can tuck them in small places french cuffs ,collars caps ect and when the disolve just replace with new packet they last a long time per packet just keep the unused ones in ziplock bag so they stay fresh because they come in a box and the little lavender scent will not harm you collectibles brand name (Enoz moth -tek) made in usa distributed by WILLERT home products 4044 park st louis MOM 63110

teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.

I used to use mothballs as well until my wife put a stop to their use because of the smell! I now use an aerosol product that comes in a can and smells like cedar. One application lasts six months, one spray down each arm and one spray on the front and back works very well. you can spray over insignia with no harm, also over ribbons etc!

Another thing to consider is keeping cloth away from windows and or heating vents. Jeff
