I have a 1937 Eva Braun (EB) silver-plated candlestick that has tarnished almost black. I was wondering if I should attempt to remove the tarnish somehow? My inclination is to leave it alone but I want to know what others think.

Brian,
The black patination is silver oxide, which is what is left after the oxidation of the silver plating. Depending on the depth of the patina, the silver may already be completely deteriorated down to the base metal.
There used to be silver suspension solutions that you could use to clean and REPLACE SILVER on silver plated items. Thanks to the EPA, that type of polishing and silver application solution can no longer be sold.
If someone in the UK wants to ship over a liter of Hollands Silver Restorer, I would love to have it for cleaning off the Honor Goblets.
