The very best thing you can do for your smock is pretty simple. Keep it as clean as you can, and keep it away from direct sunlight or constant strong artificial light. Don't hang it on a metal hanger, the fatter the hanger the better ...better still is on a dummy, it will support its weight well. Not many insects will want to eat a linen or rayon smock. Clothes moths and carpet beetles usually won't be a problem but silverfish can be a real pest. A sealed case would be nice of course, but pests have a way of finding their way into most any spot., and if a case is sealed too well it becomes easy to not check to see if anything dreadful is happening to the back side you can't see. If you smoke in the house, or live in a very dirty area, a case is real nice to have. But you are already halfway to the answer with "You might as well seal up the room". Is your room comfortable, with not too damp, nor too hot and humid, no mold, not a leaky basement or an attic full of rotting papers or books overhead (silverfish)? It should be well enough if you don't smoke much there and nobody spills food or drink in the area.
I have seen more garments ruined by strong light on display than by any other reasons. So keep them out of places where beams of sunlight shine on them every day and you shouldn't have any big problems
