Fake decal removal

Advice please, I've got a nice helmet with good original paint, but some muppet has gone and put a repro decal on it, which is proving to be a tough little bugger! I tried soaking it in water and rubbing it with white spirit, but it won't shift... so any ideas of what I can try that won't damaged the paint......

Acetone should remove the decal without damaging the original factory paint (but don't forget to test a small amount first to make sure).
