A short tempory fix is silicone. For a long term fix nothing will work. The old rubber raft has gone through a lot. Once the rubber was manufactured it began to disintegrate. The mfg. of rubber back then was a whole lot different then that of todays. The rubber raft was a fairly new idea. The idea of new polymers and strenght binders were not even developed until 1940 41? in germany there is a special flacon for sale at car shops and gas stations to make your inside from your car look new, its better then silicone spray, but it looks and feels almost the same, i have got a flacon and i use it on ground dug bakelite and very dirty dry bakelite

and it is restored for a long time.

              best wishes

I would just leave it the way it is. I think it looks fine.

I agree that it would be best left as it is.

Are you planning to take it for a test spin?
