Does anyone have opinions pro or con on the use of Ballistol. I had an old-timer collector tell me yesterday it was the one best product for overall firearm maintenance and protection. Is evidently a German originated product dating back to 1904. According to him it can even be used as an antiseptic in the field. Didn't really know whether to believe that or not. Would appreciate some feedback on this stuff. Thanks for looking Tomt

Question about Ballistol Gun Oil

Hi Jeff Thanks for the quick reply. Definitely concur on the bad odor. The older gentleman swore it was the best stuff ever. To me Renwax seems to fill all the voids. However I might consider the medicinal properties of the Ballistol if I am wounded here in Indiana--just kidding of course. Thanks again Tomt

Ballistol was still used in my times at the police as gun oil (until '99) and today there are better synthetic oils with teflon or othe additives, but it it's good as You can use it for metal, wooden and leather parts of a weapon.
It is also antiseptic. It has an aromatic smell but doesn't stinks.
