Hello from a new member
I am returning to collecting third reich medals after a long absence (most of my collection was bought in my teens - now 43). Due to the high levels of reproductions around and a lack of an extensive knowledge, I have now decided to be cautious in future buying and to probably collect repros. This is to avoid any costly mistakes !
After finding this great site, I thought I would ask members about my EK2, which while bought as original, I always had some doubts about. I know that a picture speaks a thousand words, but a digital camera is still on my January sale wish list.
The cross is in superb condition, with a 3 part construction and a magnetic core. My doubts were raised as it has a low height swastika and numerals, only a couple of millimeters high and the cross is 45 x 45 mm. The finish to the core is matt and although near perfect, gives the effect of being spray painted. If this was the case, it was to the core prior to assembly, as there is no paint on the silver frame. There is a maker mark on the ring, with a double number either a 2 or 4 as one of them (jewelers eyeglass now required !)
Could there be a chance that this is still an original piece ?
