    To tape or not to tape, that is the question

    I still don't know how I managed to do it but I really screwed up and somehow tore a couple of pages in a Soldbuch .

    My question is: Should I scotch-tape them back? (They were not torn completely out.) I really don't want to tape the pages...do you think that it will preserve the Soldbuch in the long run.


    I would truly appreciate any comments or suggestions.

    Don't tape. It leaves a residue and rots and discolors the page over time. Just keep the intact or separated pages in the book. If it is still the complete book, it retains its value far more than with a piece of tape. My thoughts anyway. Steve

      The adhesive tape will destroy your item over time. Under no circumstances should pressure-sensitive adhesive tape be used on a historic or collectible document.

        What you could do is put an extremely small piece of tape (I mean 1mm by 4 mm) at the top of the torn page, just to make sure nobody will accidently tare the page completely out.
        But the best is to leave it as such.

          If you do use tape, use something that is archival quality not the scotch tape you get at the corner store. Lots of important documents have been repaired with archival tape.

            You can even use a small piece of white field from post stamps sheet. Use small piece to glue the top of the page, the end of the tear. If someday needed, a little moisture will remove it.

            As you were already told, never use tape, over time the glue decomposes, the plastic part fno longer holds the paper. And the paper is left with bad yellow-brown stains from the glue
