cleaning zinc stain

I have a medal that has a white stain which I think comes from the zinc in it. Is there any way to clean it that won't harm it as well? The only thing I have found after researching is to use vasoline. Is that acceptable or is there something else I should be doing, or should I leave well enough alone?

Hi Bob, the only thing you can do is use an old toothbrush to put some Vaseline on it. If you leave it, the corrosion will continue and eventually totally ruin the piece. best wishes,
