How to clean brass, but not stencils?

    Hello,

I will have a 105 mm shell case later today that is in need of a clean, only thing is that it has all its original stencilling intact.

Any suggestions how to clean the brass without destroying the stencils?

    All help appreciated!

    Kind regards,
    Andy

      Anyone?

I have been told that lemon juice will do the job, anyone any experience of using it?

Don't want to try it then regret it later!

      Cheers,
      Andy

Why would you want to put an acid on metal?

Polish a piece of brass brite and put your finger print on it. The very mild acids on your skin will eventually cause corrosion on the metal in the likeness of your fingerprint. Why put a more concentrated form of acid on it?

Sorry, forgot to mention that after using the lemon juice to remove tarnishing it is wiped off with a damp cloth, then the item is polished with a dry cloth.
