As many of you know many militaria item like Helmet seems to pick up streaks of white paint through the years. I have a helmet with white and red streaks and was wondering if anyone know how to safely remove such blemishes to otherwise untouched helmets?

How do you store the helmets? In the garage? Near paint buckets or spray cans? First thing is to reduce or remove the source that creates these streaks. Move the helmets to a dry and safe area/room.

I think that he means that the items already had the paint on then when we bought them. I can't imagine that a collector would let that happen.
I indeed also have a cannister that has them, and you see paint on all sorts of items. IMO, you can only try to scrape them off carefully. I always just leave them where they are.
Paint remover will also damage the original paint.

I store them on a nice shelf. It's funny but items come to me with paint already on it. People move (garage as a staging area?) and some people who don't collect don't care for stuff as we might here.Comment
