I got a little question for the specialists:



What makes a stone mint, fully silvered badge turn into this? I got this badge about 8 months ago, it was white like snow when I got it, but now there are little grey spots all over it. It appears that the whole silvering is oxidizing or that any other reaction is going on...


So what do oyu think, is there a reason for this? I mean, I don´t touch it(sometimes ok, when you move it in the glass cabinet or something...), and I don´t wear it.

How is the humidity? You can get a humidity gauge from a pet store where they sell reptiles. If the humidity is over 60 percent, that may be the problem.

put a thin coat of petroleum jelly on it, that will stop it from turning splochey.

Beautiful IAB! Do try a light coat of vaseline (petroleum jelly) and rub it in all over the badge. Let it set overnight and then wipe off the excess. That should help stop or at least slow down the process. This is the problem with collecting zinc pieces.

thank you so much for your advice. I´ll definately try the combination between vaseline and humidity-control.

Do you apply the vaseline with a brush, or the fingers? I´m so paranoid right now, that I wonder if the acid on the skin could be a reason too.
