I think that you are right on
I had a look in FORMAN's guide to TR awards (vol.3) and on page 221 item 178,you can see the same pin on a badge (listed at 15,000.00 us dollars!!!).
On page 218 item 175 type B,same pin and catch on a 8,000 dollars badge made by Deschler.
I now believe the device on my piece was mounted by a known maker.
