hi boys what you are about to read wont get me any medals off the fakers what you see here are three british pound coins, 2 fakes and 1 real. it was about seven years ago when i first encounted the one on the left. my my i thought a lead pound coin? no that cant be right and it wasnt. the faking of coins goes back two thousand years. the roman fakers made their moulds out of clay. then thay would cast a fake coin silver wash it then bingo off to market to pass their crap on to their unsuspecting victim. as the years rolled by the introduction of hammered coins nearly killed the faking of coins but the fakers got round that by clipping gold and silver coins. they looked like clippings from your nails,so the royal mint milled coins to stop the clipping of coins, but bingo the fakers was back in business. by then the fakers would use plaster of paris to make their moulds, simple and cheap now back to 2005 the fakers are getting better. take a look of the one in the middle. the enterprising fakers are now dye stamping these they are made of brass weighing in at 9.6 of a gram bingo thay now have the correct weight to them making slot machines and cig machines a prime target. you may say its only a pound coin? but if you are churning out a thousand a day thats not a bad mark up. the one on the right is genuine for conparison ond i leave you with a thought the next time your at the bar you might like to check your change coming soon folks back from the dead part 9 close combat clasp with broken wing and wing part lost to time can doctor jim repair this.? stay tuned folks. ps the last two coins on the right are dated 2005 thay must have worn there dies out on the left one?
