    Zinc Badge Repair

I bought a small group belonging to a sailor who was killed when the Scharnhorst went down, unfortunately the package must have got crushed somehow in the post and broke the main pin which is made of a zinc based material right at the end where it is held by the hinge pin

I enquired at a couple of jewlers but basically they either did not want to know or said they could not do it because it was made of zinc and that it would melt

Anyway saw the thread on badge repair on this forum and gave Jimmy a call who said he thought he could do it

Anyway to cut a long story short, he was able to make what I consider a fantastic repair

A top guy, and enthusiastic collector, no doubt

Attached photos of before and after.

Badges were repaired on the ships, especially this first type. I see no difference except this was a better repair job. Joh
